Next Christmas, I'd like to give my kids each a collection of our family's favorite recipes. Any suggestions? I'd rather do a binder or book than a recipe card file, I think.
Anyone else done something like this?

I used to something similar ... (until Nathan was born and took up all of my time). I put together a binder and each year added a few pages. It included a family Christmas picture, the Christmas card we sent out that year, a menu from our Christmas dinner and one or two family recipes. I made a 'fill in the blank' type of form that could be filled in each year ... including such things as 'favorite songs, memories, who visited us, etc. It's fun to look back and read up on the years we did actually contribute .. I like Donna's recipe box idea where everyone brings a new recipe on an index card.
I have my husband's grandmother's recipe card box. I snagged it at a garage sale (can you imagine?). A few years ago I scanned copies and they were put on a cd and in a booklet for distribution at a family reunion.
As the only daughter, (my dear brother doesn't cook at all), I have asked my mother for one present this Christmas. That she'll write down all the dear family recipes in an ordinary writing book.
It suddenly struck me this autumn when trying to find the ideal recipe of thick pancakes on the internet; I want some tasting like the ones my mother always used to make.
I need to know her secret ingredients in meatballs, potato balls, brown gravy and tower-cake.
Thank God I got my eyes opened in due time. My mother's recipes are scattered on odd pieses of paper in the lowest kitchen drwaer, often four or five editions of the same course.
How shall I be able to find the right one after she's gone?
she has half and half promised me to make her own coook book.
I am so looking foorwars to that very present.

Yes, I have done this...in my mind! That's as far as I've gotten, but I do think it's a wonderful idea.
I have my mother's personal little recipe book of all her favourites...I would not be without it and use it often....
